Birch Island

I'm not sure when or how I came up with the idea that I needed a Birch tree in my garden and that it would be planted front and centre ... The first photo I have of it seems to be from June 1st, 2025. This is Birch Island.

One of the big goals for the garden is to increase privacy. The windows in the rear are our neighbour's house.

The birch tree is a White-Barked Himalayan Birch, a Jacquemontii Birch. Native to the Himalayas they say it can suffer in humid climates like ours but as of the time of writing ours seems fine, it's about a year on. I'll have to get a better updated photo.

I bought this in May 2025 at Komeri. It was already about 5 feet tall at that stage. I have a station wagon (Nissan X-Trail) so big plants are not a problem to bring home. It is however a problem finding places to plant them hence the ban on buying more (for the moment).
