Pantone's Colour (or Color) of the Year: Cloud Dancer
Pantone recently announced its Color of the Year and it is rather disappointing as a person who loves colour. Cloud Dancer is "a lofty airy white".
Since the program began, Pantone has announced a variety of shades to represent the year ahead.
- 2026: Cloud Dancer (a shade of white)
- 2025: Mocha Mousse (a soft brown)
- 2024: Peach Fuzz (a velvety peach tone)
- 2023: Viva Magenta (a lively crimson red)
- 2022: Very Peri (a dynamic periwinkle blue)
- 2021: Illuminating (bright yellow) and Ultimate Gray (gray) (a duo was chosen)
This morning when I opened Unsplash to look for a photo, this one of New Zealand popped up. It immediately inspired me to write about the Color of the Year. I felt the calm serenity of the mountains. I also feel the exhilaration photographer Aaron Sebastian must have felt when he took this picture.
"Have always loved winter season and this was taken from my trip to New Zealand, on a hike to the top of Roys Peak."
I personally have never done this hike, since I do not like hiking, but Roy's Peak is a well-known hiking trail and can be completed in a day. I am so tempted but I would really have to up my daily walks to train for it.

How does this picture make you feel? Calm? That's the intended vibe behind the color of the year, a moment of quiet calm to cut through the noise of our current world.
I appreciate what Pantone is aiming for: a breath of calm in a noisy world. But in my shop, colour is about joy and confidence — not erasing ourselves into white.
Cloud Dancer may trend globally, but here I’ll keep championing the colours that make people light up the moment they try them on.
「世界のトレンドは“白”でも、私は“あなたを綺麗に見せる色”を選びます。」
(Even if the global trend is “white,” I choose colours that make you look beautiful.)
