Showing Up Anyway

Today was our very first Wool & Wonder Learn to Knit Day.

No one came.

I won’t pretend that wasn’t disappointing — it’s always a bit disheartening when you put energy into something and it doesn’t go quite as planned. But I also know this is part of the process. Good things take time. Communities take time. Sometimes you have to open the space and hold it with hope, even before anyone walks through the door.

So, I went ahead with it anyway. I made a cup of tea, put on some quiet music, and started knitting a pair of slippers. Before long, I found myself remembering that I do know how to knit — sort of! — and that familiar rhythm came back. It was peaceful, and actually quite lovely.

I realised that “showing up anyway” is its own kind of success. Not every event has to be full to be meaningful. Sometimes it’s about creating the habit of opening space for connection — trusting that, over time, people will find their way in.

Next time, I’ll spread the word a little better, talk to more people, and keep the kettle warm just in case. Whether you come to knit, to chat, or simply to sit for a while, you’ll be very welcome here.

Some days it feels a little hopeless — like I’m whispering into the wind and no one’s hearing. But I remind myself that the right people always find their way, in their own time. What matters is staying true to what feels genuine, creating with care, and keeping that small spark of hope alive. I don’t need to change who I am or what this space is about. The right people will discover us — and love us — just the way we are.

🧶 Our next Learn to Knit Day will be on Saturday, 9 November, from 3–5pm at the shop. I’d love you to join me — bring your curiosity, and we’ll make something together.
